Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina
Jolie Voight, (born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American
actor and director renowned for her sexual edginess and sex appeal and also for
her charitable work. She was awarded an Academy Award for her supporting part
as a mentally ill patient in Girl, Interrupted (1999).Jolie, daughter of actor
Jon Voight, spent much of her early years in New York before relocating to Los
Angeles at age 11. After being at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute
for two years ago, she later enrolled at Beverly Hills High School. She then
studied acting at New York University. In addition to acting in theatre
productions, she modeled and appeared in music videos.Jolie's first major movie
role was in Hackers (1995) and during the filming of which she became engaged
to her first husband British actor Jonny Lee Miller (married 1996 divorced in
1999). As with several subsequent films, the film could not garner a following.
Jolie, who played the role of governor's wife of Alabama's segregationist
governor and was the focus of attention in 1997. In the following year, she
received an award called the Golden Globe Award. In the HBO film Gia in which
she was a supermodel who had a drug addiction. She was awarded multiple honors
as well as a Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. In 1999, she
starred in the comedy Pushing Tin with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and
that same year, she got married Thornton (divorced 2003).After the
Oscar-winning role in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie appeared in a string of action
movies. In Gone in Sixty Seconds ((2000)) she played the role of Nicole Cage's
lover. She later took on the British accent and learned kickboxing and street
fighting to play the title roles in Lara Croft Tomb Raider (2003) and Lara
Croft Tomb Raider : The Cradle of Life (2004). In 2004 she portrayed the mother
of Alexander the Great in Oliver Stone's Alexander as well as starred alongside
Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a
science fiction thriller set in 1930s New York City. Both films were box-office
disappointments, but Jolie made a splash with Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005)
which was a film where she played an assassin disguised as an ordinary
housewife. While working on the film she came across Brad Pitt, who became her
co-star.
